Technology has played an important role in my academic setting as well as my life in general. Although technology was not a big part of my life growing up as a kid, I have become very equipped in utilizing it. Through many of my classes, I have had web based classes that require the complete use of a computer in order to fulfill the requirements in class. Furthermore, in several of my more recent classes the use of technology and applications based around it have been used for projects done in these classes. I have created several websites for classes both an e-portfolio for myself as well as one for my internship, and several intricate projects that were based around the use of technology. I use technology on a regular basis for work purposes as well as everyday activities like entertainment, physical activity, health, and navigation. Therefore, I have had much prior experience with technology.
I hope that in this class I will learn a better to way to utilize technology in a teaching setting. I have used technology for the purpose of my education but I hope to get a better understanding of it from a teaching perspective. I think that due to the advancements in technology and that we are now in a full on digital age, that it is important to have a better understanding of the use of technology in an educational setting considering that this will be the basis for many of the ways that the individuals we will be teaching will learn. Technology is a useful resource that could help in advancing the teacher/ student relationship and potentially better the experience as a whole. Therefore, I hope this class will give me different approaches on how to help students with their education through the use of technology.
According to the results of my learning style, I am somewhere in the middle of both an active and reflective learner as well as a sensing and intuitive learner. When it comes to my active and reflective learning, it really depends on the setting in the project. Sometimes I like to work in groups and bounce ideas of other individuals or dive right into it. Sometimes I prefer working alone because I feel I acquire the best results from my information by myself. Sometimes it helps for me to actively try to use the information that I obtain from an assignment and sometimes I like to think it out first before I do it. When it comes to being an intuitive or sensing learner, I definitely like when I learn information that can be applied to real world experiences and I also like to pay attention to the details. However, I feel concepts and theories are important to look at and remember as well as the desire to look at the relationship of things. In a lot of my English classes, although we are tested on what we learn in class, we are also tested on what we think the deeper meaning is. Therefore, I have to have a deeper understanding for both. Honestly, when taking the survey I was conflicted on many of the answers because I felt that I could go either way with them. I think that the test was accurate in my results by acknowledging that I am somewhere in the middle of these.
