ILP # 2

For my second ILP, I decided to take a MOOC. To try and learn something new, I picked a science course that happen to be from the University of Michigan and was about Gastrointestinal, Reproductive, and Endocrine Anatomy. The class consisted of a couple videos that gave information about the particular subject, the first being Gastrointestinal and then proceeded to give a quiz on that information. While I like to think that I was informed on the subject at hand, having been given more in-depth information, clarified that I was not as knowledgeable as I presumed about the subjects. The video for the GI review gives a diagram to give a visual of how it works and interacts with the diagram in order to give information about the subject. Furthermore, after each video there are short quizzes like the one below to ensure that the information was retained and understood. Ultimately, I think the way that they line up the videos with a short review after helps the individual retain important in...

I think data collection and reporting tools will come in handy for me throughout my experience as a teacher. As I am trying to be a high school English teacher, grades will be important and this is a great way to keep track of how my students are doing academically as well as keep them and their parents updated on their status. Therefore, learning this aspect of Excel that was previously unknown to me will be extremely beneficial in my experience as a teacher. Not to mention, it is a great way to keep track of how my students are doing as a whole and if there is room for improvement, this kind of data will be able to highlight it for me and I can work on making changes to improve the success of my students. Surveying will also allow me to see where my students stand or how they feel about course material and hopefully we can work together to come to mutual agreements and understandings so that the class runs smoothly and the students get the most out of their learning experience. For...

The flipped classroom is an innovative blended delivery model and is educational video casts that was first introduced to have lectures available for absent students and to change the way students and teachers spend class time. Rather than use the classroom time to lecture students on the material and then practicing the information in their homework, it is "flipped" and students listen to prerecorded lectures for homework before class. That way when they are in the classroom they are able to actively engage in the learning process of the material learned and can work on activities either individually or in a group with the assistance of their teacher. This way the teacher is able to assist the students with a deeper meaning and understanding on the content and the teacher becomes a guide in the learning process. There are many variations of this technique that are coming to light and a variety of technologies to fulfill this new method of teaching. https://www.knewton.com/...

Adaptive technologies are used to support learners that may suffer from a disability and therefore require software or modifications to make it accessible and useful to these learners. There are ways to accommodate individuals with a variety of differences including students who are deaf, blind, for students that are unable to use a standard keyboard and mouse, for those who suffer from eyesight impairments but are not blind, for individuals that do not have motor control, and other disabilities that hinder them from the use of a typical computer. I personally can not think of anyone that has used this technology except for maybe the magnification application in order to be able to read due to changes in eyesight and I have also utilized this aspect before. However, as for other adaptive technologies, I can not think of an occasion where these have been used. The difficulty of anything when it comes to a classroom is the diverse range of students that a teacher will be in charge of e...

I have previously used Twitter before in another class for a similar assignment except that we had to post a lot more than is required in this class. I have not necessarily learned anything new in my uses f Twitter that were previously unknown to me but I have learned more about education and technology. Furthermore, I find many benefits in using Twitter especially when keeping up with fellow students or an collegiate academic setting. Twitter is a fast and easy way of communication that allows a person to share things of interest especially like we do in class relating to the subjects that are important to our career as well as highlight what is important in the information that we do share. Twitter allows for people all over the world to communicate information that previously would have been unknown to others due to the lack of communication. I have yet to experience any issues with Twitter as I am relatively familiar with the application and therefore know how to navigate my way ar...

For my ILP, I watch a video on Lynda.com about "Developing a Learning Mindset". The video was 31 minutes and 25 seconds long and I watched it between last night, February 27th, and this afternoon, February 28th. The video opens with an introduction consisting of two videos, welcome and what you should know. The next section is Understanding Learning and is broken down into four videos which are what is your motivation to learn?, how the brain is designed to learn, learning outside of traditional education, and skills for learning. The second section is your self-inventory which has two videos, create an inventory of what you have learned and why a love of knowledge is so important. The third section does not appear to be included in the video and therefore the last section is how to stay motivated. This section has three parts and they are how to grow as a learner, make you learning fun, and next steps in your learning journey. The learning experience consisted of learning ...
