ILP 1

For my ILP, I watch a video on Lynda.com about "Developing a Learning Mindset". The video was 31 minutes and 25 seconds long and I watched it between last night, February 27th, and this afternoon, February 28th. The video opens with an introduction consisting of two videos, welcome and what you should know. The next section is Understanding Learning and is broken down into four videos which are what is your motivation to learn?, how the brain is designed to learn, learning outside of traditional education, and skills for learning. The second section is your self-inventory which has two videos, create an inventory of what you have learned and why a love of knowledge is so important. The third section does not appear to be included in the video and therefore the last section is how to stay motivated. This section has three parts and they are how to grow as a learner, make you learning fun, and next steps in your learning journey.

The learning experience consisted of learning more about how the brain works and how the different components in the brain communicate. It also discusses methods of remembering through repetition and associating a visual memory with a word and that for our brains to work properly we need sleep, exercise, and nutrition. Furthermore, this mindset is about being motivated to be a constant learner and to always be learning something new and take opportunities to learn whenever possible. With the video it discusses to having learning as "a habit and not a chore". There is discussion of self-inventory about the information that a person has learned and how that person best learns as well. There are ideas introduced about stepping out of a traditional education that focuses on just knowledge and looking at knowledge, transferrable skills, and traits. Ultimately, the video is meant to give information on how to make learning enjoyable and fulfilling in order to carry it through life.
