Adaptive technologies are used to support learners that may suffer from a disability and therefore require software or modifications to make it accessible and useful to these learners. There are ways to accommodate individuals with a variety of differences including students who are deaf, blind, for students that are unable to use a standard keyboard and mouse, for those who suffer from eyesight impairments but are not blind, for individuals that do not have motor control, and other disabilities that hinder them from the use of a typical computer. I personally can not think of anyone that has used this technology except for maybe the magnification application in order to be able to read due to changes in eyesight and I have also utilized this aspect before. However, as for other adaptive technologies, I can not think of an occasion where these have been used.

The difficulty of anything when it comes to a classroom is the diverse range of students that a teacher will be in charge of educating. Therefore, it is always hard to accommodate every student in every way possible and sometimes when attempting to accommodate on student it could interfere with the learning of another. For example, a student might get distracted or not be able to follow a digital book that a student who is blind requires. Therefore, while working to help this individual get the education they require, it affects the learning of another student. There are a range of individuals with different needs and ensuring that all of these are fulfilled is always a tough task for a teacher. Furthermore, sometimes if it isn't a disability that is openly known to other students, these students may not feel comfortable in a situation that brings this to light. When it comes to all students, these individuals want to feel included and part of lesson and not singled out by their needs due to their disability. Therefore, it is important to find the best way to accommodate these students without interfering with others or making anyone feel uncomfortable. Although it is never a perfect system, it is our job to the best that we can.

It is important within the education field to keep up with the technological trends as technology is a powerful resource to utilize within the classroom setting. Therefore it is important to find ways to keep yourself informed of how this are constantly changing and improving. The most popular way to keep up with these can be done through the use of things like Twitter, Facebook, Diigo, or other collaborative/ social media applications. However, there are other great resources that are done by educators to keep others informed of what is new with technology. These news feeds include:

The Innovative Educator- A fellow educator shows ways to make teaching more relevant and interesting as well as showing how to utilize these resources.
